Baptismal Preparation Lists

Infant / Child Preparation

Supplies to be brought by the parents, godparents, or candidate: 

1. Classic Olive Oil – small bottle 
2. Bar of Dove Soap 
3. Large White Bath Towel 
4. Small White Hand Towel 
5. Baptismal Cross 
6. Baptism Gown / Clothing for after Baptism 
7. Icon for the candidate of their patron saint 
8. Baptismal Candle


Adult Preparation

Supplies to be brought by the sponsor/godparent or candidate: 

1. Classic Olive Oil – small bottle 
2. Bar of Dove Soap 
3. Large (2) White Bath Towel 
4. Small (1) White Hand Towel 
5. Baptismal Cross 
6. Baptismal Candle - can be decorated tastefully.  The candle should be 15-18” long with a drip cup.
7. Clothing for the Baptism: Black clothing for baptism must be obtained.  It should be loose and modest.  Men can wear a large black T-shirt and long shorts.  Women should wear a black one-piece bathing suit covered by a large black T-shirt or other loose garment that falls below the hips with long black shorts or leggings. 
8. Clothing for after Baptism: White dress shirt (men) and khaki pants (men) / Long white dress (women) 
9. Icon for the candidate of their patron saint 


Note:  If you are only being Chrismated, you will not need a towel or black clothing.

Note: The godparent(s) should come to Confession prior to the baptism.  Talk with the parish priest to work out the appropriate time.

Note: The newly baptized Orthodox Christian will receive Holy Communion first for the following three Sundays, carried by his/her godparent, and with their baptismal candle lit.
